Nomad Boxes

It’s fair to say I've something of an obsession with containers in all their various forms. Obviously bags are my first love but boxes come a close second.

These old costume trunks were originally used by certain touring musicians and theatre groups before they found their way to the archives of the British Theatre Museum. In 1974 the museum was incorporated into the V&A and the artefacts in the collection were absorbed. As the V&A reorganises their storage the original boxes are no longer needed and they're often taken on by Retrouvius, London's architectural / design salvage specialists. Whenever they become available I snap them up - now they're used to hold tools in the studio, to store archival pieces and to carry my samples when I take my work on the road.
